Boras: A Bold, Confident Display Font
Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Test in black and white first. Boras gains strength without color—its contrast and shape hold up. Add color only to elevate, not compensate.
- Check readability at real sizes. At 24px on screen or 8pt in print, tracking needs +20–30 units. Don’t assume default spacing works.
- Mock it up—early and often. Drop Boras into a real product label mockup, not just a type specimen. See how it interacts with photography, texture, and negative space.
- Compare case treatments. Uppercase Boras reads as bold and declarative; mixed-case reveals rhythm and breath. Choose intentionally.
- Review spacing meticulously. Kerning pairs like “To”, “AV”, and “Wa” need manual adjustment in tight contexts—especially logos.
- Pair with purpose. Next to a warm serif font (like Playfair Display), Boras grounds elegance. Against a neutral sans serif (Inter or Neue Haas Grotesk), it adds dimension. Avoid pairing with other display fonts unless one is dramatically lighter or more decorative—competition dilutes impact.
- Verify licensing before launch. Boras is a premium font with clear commercial terms—but confirm usage rights cover your client’s distribution (e.g., SaaS dashboard embeds, physical product tags, or resale of Canva templates).
